Distinctive Repertoire
The New Haven Oratorio Choir (NHOC), a select ensemble of approximately thirty singers, performs sacred choral music from the Renaissance through today focusing on the Baroque and Classical periods. The ensemble presents choral masterworks by major figures, such as J.S. Bach, Haydn, Mozart, and Schubert, as well as worthy pieces by more obscure composers, such as Jan Dismas Zelenka and Flor Peeters. NHOCO also commissions new works by rising contemporary composers.
Rehearsals
NHOC rehearses Wednesdays from 8:00 to 10 pm at the Church of the Redeemer in New Haven (185 Cold Spring Street), with occasional longer rehearsals, often immediately prior to performances. A full schedule of rehearsals, concerts, and other events is provided at the beginning of the season.
