What happens when Europe’s Baroque meets the impassioned Slavic soul? Our own Mark Bailey, America’s foremost expert on the Slavic Baroque, offers monumental works from the Russian and Ukrainian “Holy Age” of the 17th and 18th centuries. The journey begins with the spiritual solemnity of medieval chant, then gathers momentum with the polyphonic beauty of Ukrainian composer Yepiphany Slavinetsky before breaking into the joyful celebration of Dmitri Bortniansky’s sacred choral concertos.
